After serving as a public relations officer for the Government of Puerto Rico, founding a private PR consulting firm and serving as creator and executive director of Edu Ambiente-Proyectos Educativos, Mrs. Roman ultimately transitioned into a new career after severe symptoms of multiple sclerosis left her unable to work in her accustomed fields. Because of her vulnerable state, she had to take time for herself to learn how to better manage the disease. During this time, Mrs. Roman engaged in meditation practices to strengthen her immune system and her brain's cognitive capabilities. She seized upon the opportunity to return to school, where she began researching about mindfulness meditation practices in the field of education.
Presently, Mrs. Roman is a successful mindfulness teacher and coach. Working directly with individuals of all ages, she also assists the public school system in Puerto Rico, as well as for various nonprofit and profit organizations throughout the island. Notably, Mrs. Roman has been a pioneer in bringing mindfulness practices into the schools in Puerto Rico.
In 2020 Mrs. Roman founded Proyecto Respira in Puerto Rico, which offers online courses in mindfulness to support people in their efforts towards seeking balance, focus, well-being, mental clarity and tranquility. She also recently joined Insight LA meditation in 2019, a nonprofit meditation center that offers classes, retreats and special events to the world community. In addition to engaging in these groups, Mrs. Roman has been an ambassador on behalf of Biogen since 2014, a biotechnology company in Massachusetts that specializes in therapies for those suffering with neurological issues.
Dedicated to serving her community, Mrs. Roman is aligned with Insight in Action, an organization that seeks to spread the foundations of mindfulness to residents, (especially in times of difficulty and distress. She has also been involved on the board of directors of the Puerto Rico Multiple Sclerosis Foundation since 2018 and as a volunteer at her community's school. Mrs. Roman received a Bachelor of Science in marketing with a minor in communications at Boston College in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in marketing management at Inter American University in Puerto Rico in 1998. She has since earned a mindfulness teacher certification, become a certified Mindful Leader workplace mindfulness facilitator, become a certified ICF executive coach and earned Happiitude's happiness coach certification. Furthermore, Mrs. Roman is a recognized mindfulness teacher via the International Mindfulness Teachers Association.
