Kanekoa is a high energy, 5 piece (2 Ukuleles, Bass, Drums and Percussion) jam band from Maui Hawaii. Their sound has been labeled in the "Hawaiian/Fusion/Rock/Reggae" categories, since there really is no other way to describe it. Most of the songs they play are written by all of them, as they each throw their own unique influences into the mix. They are also known for playing obscure cover songs by artists such as the Grateful Dead and Men At Work. They are known by most people because of their extremely unique sounds which stem from 2 electrified ukuleles, and their high energy stage shows. Keep an eye on their schedule and make sure to come see them if they are in your area. You wont be disappointed!
Kanekoa — # 1 on iTunes US Compilation Album Chart for 3 straight months!
'Ohana - Volume One, the most downloaded Pop Compilation Record in the World for it's first 6 weeks, features lead single "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Kaulana Kanekoa and Vince Esquire. The song was the #1 Pop Compilation download on iTunes in the US, UK, Germany, France, Holland, Luxembourg, Italy, Canada, Ireland, Spain and Denmark for 2 months.
Now three months after the digital release, "Somewhere" still sits at #1 in the US, Canada, and recently reached #1 in Australia, #2 in UK and Ireland, #4 in Denmark and Luxembourg, #5 in Spain, #8 in Belgium and Holland, #22 in Italy, #23 in Austria, #32 in France... on the iTunes Worldwide Compilation Record Charts.
Kaulana Kanekoa and Vince Esquire's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" will also be the lead single and video on the upcoming soundtrack album for the feature film "Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School" starring Robert Carlyle, Marisa Tomei, Mary Steenburgen, Sean Astin, David Paymer, Camryn Manheim, Danny DeVito and John Goodman.
"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was recently featured on "The Pride Of Britain" a BBC telecast w PM Tony Blair.
Also, Vince Esquire and album producer, Dave Cochrane, have 5 songs each in the upcoming feature film "Submission" starring Corbin Bernson, Simone Mackinnon, and Claire Carey. The Soundtrack for the film will also feature songs by Funk music legend, Fred Wesley, and will be released in early 2006 on Major Hana Records.
"'OHANA - Volume One" is now available for digital downloads on iTunes and the CD was released on Maui, November 14th, and will be available on the other Hawaiian Islands in early January '06.
