Chicago Department of Transportation Approves Armor-Tile Tactile Systems

The nation's leader in detectable warnings manufacturing, Engineered Plastics, Inc., is proud to announce that the Chicago Department of Transportation has specified its flagship product, Armor-Tile Tactile Systems, as approved for use in Chicago

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY, May 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Engineered Plastics, Inc. (EPI), is proud to have its Armor-Tile Tactile Systems accepted as a specified detectable warning by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT). Approval was granted after CDOT worked with EPI to thoroughly determine whether Armor-Tile could meet the City of Chicago's standards for pedestrian safety. This included rigorous "field-testing" Armor-Tile during this past winter.

"Commissioner Thomas Byrne and his staff should be commended for their professionalism and hard work," EPI President Ken Szekely said. "Their input helped EPI design and produce the strongest, safest product on the market for Chicago's streets."

Since 2001, The Americans With Disabilities Act dictates that detectable warnings are required on curb ramps and hazardous vehicular ways. Armor-Tile is the world leader in the manufacturing of detectable warnings and has been the standard in the industry since 1990. A majority of municipalities and transit systems across the country ask for Armor-Tile by name. Being the oldest and most recognized name in detectable warning products in North America, Armor-Tile products are engineered to the highest standards and are currently used in every state in the U.S.

"Armor-Tile couldn't be more excited to be in the Chicago market and an option for those contracted to make improvements to the City of Chicago," Szekely said. "It won't take long for contractors to know why Armor-Tile is the best in the industry."
