Bowen, Ed.D., M.Ed., Professor of Higher Education for the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Academia. While inclusion in Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named the Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, and leadership abilities.

Cynthia T. Bowen boasts 39 years of professional experience. Since joining the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 2000 she has become an indispensible member of the faculty. Currently, she is responsible for teaching graduate level courses and serving on college and state committees. In 1969, Dr. Bowen began her career as a first-grade teacher. Since then, she has held many positions including reading supervisor and school principal. She began working as a part-time professor at Notre Dame in 1986, teaching a single reading course. Dr. Bowen makes a conscience effort to provide researched-based information and meaningful experiences to properly prepare her students for academic, administrative or specialized positions. She received her Master of Arts in Education, with a concentration in reading, from The John Hopkins University in 1977 and her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Towson State College (now Towson University) in 1970.
