Cambridge Who's Who Names Michael J. Demakis Professional of the Year in Sports Training

Michael J. Demakis, President and Chief Executive Officer of FC Elite, a sports-specific training center



    BALDWIN, NY, June 3, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael J. Demakis, President and Chief Executive Officer of FC Elite, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Sports Training. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Mr. Demakis' expertise lies in personal fitness. He brings 15 years of professional experience in the field to FC Elite, a sports-specific training center that offers soccer academies for boys and girls, and strength, conditioning, speed and agility training. As the president and CEO, he is responsible for managing day-to-day operations, working as a personal trainer, and traveling to work with clients.

Prior to joining FC Elite, Mr. Demakis was part-owner and coach of the Long Island Fury in Women's Premier Soccer League, with whom he won the national championship in 2006. A highly experienced trainer in professional sports, he also worked as strength and conditioning coach for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League, as strength and conditioning coach for the New York Dragons in the Arena Football League, and as assistant strength and conditioning coach for the New York Jets in the National Football League. Mr. Demakis also enjoyed success in college athletics, having worked for the University of Kentucky as assistant women's soccer coach and strength and conditioning coach, for Iona College as assistant women's soccer coach, and for Boston College as assistant strength and conditioning coach. He attributes his success to his hard work, determination and focus on his goals.

Mr. Demakis received his Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology in 1997 from the University of Kentucky and his Bachelor's Degree in Health and Fitness Management in 1994 from Springfield College. He is a Certified Sports Conditioning Specialist through the International Sports Sciences Association. Additionally, he holds a certification from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a premier diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Formerly, Mr. Demakis was co-owner of the Long Island Academy of the National Premier Soccer League and a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
