"All Quiet on the Western Front" Scribes Sign With Lynn Pleshette Agency

Ian Stokell & Lesley Paterson Join Prestigious Agency

LOS ANGELES, CA, June 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson, writers of the all new "All Quiet on the Western Front," have signed with the prestigious Lynn Pleshette boutique literary agency. The writing-producing duo is now repped by agent Michael Cendejas.

The "All Quiet on the Western front" script is garnering considerable interest because of both the compelling nature of the new story and the way the writers have been able to mesh the important themes of the original novel with the demands of a 21st century cinema audience.

Stokell, for many years a managing editor and journalist with The Washington Post organization, believes nothing in film can take the place of a compelling story. "It is not enough for a modern cinematically sophisticated audience when filmmakers simply throw huge amounts of money and special effects at the screen," he says. "Story is key. And the audience has to believe in the characters on the screen and what they are going through."

Adds Paterson, "There has to be a reason for everything you see on screen - from story throughlines to motivational choices. We think the worse thing any filmmaker can do is assume an audience will forgive a tenuous storyline or a lack of compelling drama for the sake of pyrotechnics or action. They have to co-exist. That is one of the main prerequisites for all of our scripts."

Stokell/Paterson, who have the option on the world famous Erich Maria Remarque-authored "All Quiet on the Western Front" novel, feel that the sentiments of the classic World War One anti-war novel are as applicable today as they were more than 75 years ago when it was first published. They also believe that any new adaptation should go a long way in recreating the brutality and day-to-day horror of the trenches for the young, naive protagonist, with realism as a key to drawing in an audience.

Another Stokell/Paterson-written script receiving considerable interest is a family action-adventure franchise entitled "The Swinging Lanterns Stories." Set at a beach bar in the Tropics, the exciting ensemble script is already out to directors and talent.

Other Stokell/Paterson-scripted projects in development include an action-drama called "Searching for Destruction" about the British army in Northern Ireland, based on the novel of the same name, and an international suspense thriller entitled "Olympic Glory," about the dark side of the pursuit for Olympic gold medals.
