Is Your Travel Insurance Below Par?

According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, a staggering 25% of those travelling still set off on their trip without taking out any form of travel insurance policy.

GATLEY, ENGLAND, July 09, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, a staggering 25% of those travelling still set off on their trip without taking out any form of travel insurance policy. When considering the risks involved in being away from home without cover in place, this is an alarming statistic. However, this doesn't even paint the full picture. Of the 75% that have taken out cover this may not really meet their needs while they are away. This is especially true for golfers. While you'll survive losing your suitcase, your holiday will be ruined if your golf gear doesn't turn up or is damaged.

There are some travel policies that have a golf option but most provide insufficient cover for golfers, with golf equipment only covered up to GBP1,000 and no provision for the hire of golf clubs to at least get you on the course. What about facing a delay at the airport? Another event you'll survive but you may well miss a pre-booked tee time slot from which you will not be compensated for with most travel policies.

Of course the really serious reason to purchase travel insurance concerns medical emergencies. Without cover you genuinely may not survive a major medical emergency abroad - it's a vital purchase especially on the golf course where the risk of getting hit by a wayward ball is greater than on the beach! Unless you have selected a golf insurance from golfcare.co.uk option, medical emergencies resulting from an injury or anything else (e.g. heart attack) won't be covered. To give some guide to costs of treatment if you don't have insurance, a heart attack can cost you GBP8,000 to treat in Spain and could be as high as GBP110,000 in the USA. Then you need to get back to the UK and the air ambulance costs can easily run into the tens of thousands of pounds.

Companies that offer good travel cover for golfers are a rare breed. By far the most comprehensive cover is provided by Golf Care, the UK's largest specialist golf insurance provider, whose UK, European and Worldwide travel insurance has been designed to cater for the individual's and family's travel insurance needs with a special golf travel insurance from golfcare.co.uk option for the golfer in the family. Their equipment cover is for theft, loss and damage up to GBP3,000; if your own equipment is stolen, loss, damaged or delayed the cost of equipment hire is covered up to GBP400, and they'll even cover unused green fees and tuition fees up to GBP500.
