12 Year Old Reads The Pen And Paper Diet And Understands All Concepts

Marissa Silva, 12 year old from Tucson, understands (after reading the book) that all one needs to do is track calories to control weight while they eat what they want.

TUCSON, AZ, March 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The story happened as follows:
Manuel Silva (wife named Velia) and Michael Dow (author of the book) had a Masters class together and were required to meet for a group project. Manuel brought his daughter, Marissa, to the meeting at Barnes and Noble and she had a stack books in front of her. Manuel said she was an avid reader. Michael asked her if she wouldn't mind reading the book to see if she could understand it. She read it while Manuel and Michael worked on their project. Later, Michael asked her what she learned and she said, "It's kind of cool. You can eat whatever you want while you control your weight just as long as you keep track of your calories." When asked if she learned any other big points, she said, "yeah, you can even gain weight doing this by consuming more calories." (There was only one paragraph in the book that discussed weight gain using these ideas.)

The important implication about this story is that older children and teenagers can grasp The Pen and Paper Diet. With childhood obesity rates at abnormally high levels (http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/Obesity/), The Pen and Paper Diet offers a simple solution to this problem.
