It is a policy that has led couples such as Ellie and Bill Chapman to convert from being vacation home renters into becoming condominium owners at 1200 Hillsboro Mile.
The new, 11-unit Intracoastal building along the prestigious "Mile" in Hillsboro Beach is the perfect vacation venue for the Chapmans and Oliver, their Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier who weighs in at approximately 32 pounds.
With a primary residence in Boston, the couple and their pooch are very happy snowbirds in South Florida. They have been renting along Hillsboro Mile for eight years and love it here.
"Although we considered buying a condominium in the area and had looked for opportunities over the years, the buildings were either too large for our taste, or too old. And, if pets were allowed at all, they had to be smaller than our own dog," said Ellie Chapman, an avowed pet lover.
When the Chapmans discovered 1200 Hillsboro Mile, they also found out that Oliver would be welcome to live there with them.
"1200 is a boutique building where we now live on the first floor. We just walk through a small lobby when we want to leave the building or go across the street to the beach," Chapman explained. "It's like having our own private home, without the upkeep."
Chapman said that the home builder was very accommodating to their needs. "They installed a gate on our wrap-around terrace along the Intracoastal Waterway with dog access," she added.
"We didn't have to give up anything when we bought at 1200. We enjoy living in a small building, and it has easy access in and out. Most recently, we had rented a townhome on the Intracoastal and we now own a residence on the Intracoastal. Plus, we love being near the beach," she said.
The Chapmans' ears also perked up when they initially heard about the dog park, just minutes by car, in nearby Boca Raton. They subsequently began taking Oliver to "Mizner Bark" on a regular basis during their months in South Florida. Dogs are allowed to run off-leash, and there are benches and water fountains located throughout the park. Additional amenities include wash stations and doggie bags for waste. Furthermore, the property is fenced, with separate areas for large, medium and small dogs.
The retired nurse enjoys spending her free time with their dog. Her husband does, too, unless he is working on his computer, taking care of business as a funeral director in Boston. With today's advanced technology, snowbirds can continue to be involved in their careers while being away in their vacation homes.
"At 1200 Hillsboro Mile, the Chapmans aren't the only other residents with pets," DePaolo pointed out.
Two floor plan options are offered at 1200 Hillsboro Mile, each with three bedrooms, two and one-half baths, more than 2,000 total square feet and large, covered terraces. Six of the 11 residences in the completed Intracoastal building are sold. Current prices are from $650,000 to $1,149,900. Another 18 residences, priced from $1,295,000 to $1,995,000,
are planned in an oceanfront building across the street.
1200 Hillsboro Mile has completed amenities that include an Intracoastal dock for overnight visitors' boats; a pool, pool house and spa; an intimate, designer-furnished lobby; a club/media room with an outdoor entertainment deck; a fitness center; and private, deeded beach access.
