Ultrasonix Receives NSERC Synergy Award for Partnership with University of British Columbia

Ultrasonix receives NSERC Synergy Award for its university-industry partnership with the University of British Columbia.



    RICHMOND, BC, October 28, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ultrasonix Medical Corporation, a leading developer and manufacturer of high quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging systems, announced today that the company has been awarded the Synergy Award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for its partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC), an award with past winners that include Eli Lilly, 3M, Kodak and IBM. The award recognizes effective partnerships between universities and industry, and outstanding achievements of university-industry collaboration.

The strong partnership with UBC began in 2001 when Ultrasonix released their initial research device, and has since developed over the years to include five laboratory and clinical installations of the Ultrasonix ultrasound system within UBC. The company has taken advantage of the excellent research being performed at UBC on the research platforms by licensing cutting-edge technologies that help improve patient care in multiple ultrasound markets. Ultrasonix has also leveraged the knowledge and skills of the students graduating from the UBC laboratories using their systems, with four full-time research and development staff being UBC graduates, as well as multiple co-op opportunities having been provided.
