Nonprofit Conversation Now Read in 115 Countries

Nonprofit Conversation, a collaborative blog for nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations, is now being read in 115 countries, with a readership of 12,000. Hosted by Bunnie Riedel of Riedel Communications, it has gained unprecedented popularity.

COLUMBIA, MD, October 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nonprofit Conversation, a collaborative blog hosted by nonprofit expert, Bunnie Riedel, has gained increasing popularity in a short amount of time. Nonprofit Conversation now has over 12,000 readers in 115 countries.

"I think it's because the subject matter is extremely relevant to those of us in the nonprofit field," said Bunnie Riedel, blog host and President of Riedel Communications. "Particularly in this economic environment. Nonprofits and NGO's around the world share similar challenges and opportunities, how do we meet a need on diminishing resources?"

Riedel decided she wanted to do a blog on topics of interest to nonprofit executives, board members and consultants, but she wanted it to be a bit different from other blogs on nonprofit issues.

"I determined right away that the best way to do it was to make it collaborative, invite others to share their expertise and wisdom," said Riedel. "I felt if it were just me writing it would become stale quickly and I've loved hearing what other people have to say. I like that it's a real conversation."

Issues that have been addressed range from fundraising to technology to board management and legal trends.

"One of the most popular blogs we've had so far described a recent court case in which a board chair was held personally financially liable for the organization not paying payroll taxes," said Riedel. "I think that one really got people's attention. 'You mean I can be sued for what the nonprofit does or does not do?' The answer to that is 'yes' and I think it really surprised people."

What does Riedel see as the most important trend in nonprofit management?

"I'd say it's expansion of reach and ideas. The economy is forcing nonprofits to go beyond their comfort zone and try all kinds of new things, such as embracing social media, in order to stay afloat," said Riedel. "I am just grateful for how many people are reading Nonprofit Conversation and I'm hoping we're providing information that is useful and helpful."

Because the blog has been adopted internationally, Riedel has increased her effort to reach out to writers from outside the United States. Nonprofit Conversation welcomes international guest writers who can provide 500 to 600 words (or more) on topics of interest to the nonprofit community.
