Brain Tumor Walk To Raise Awareness And Funding For Deadly Disease

DENVER, CO, January 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Each day in the United States, 482 people are diagnosed with a brain tumor, almost the same number that is diagnosed with breast cancer daily. Sadly, there exists a severe lack of awareness and funding for brain tumors.

Miles for Hope, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, founded by brain cancer survivor Robert Gibbs, hopes to change that. "Our mission is to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research, and to provide travel assistance to qualified patients." Robert has survived almost 6 years since his diagnosis in 2004, thanks to an experimental brain cancer vaccine he received. "Most people are unaware of the magnitude of this disease. As an organization, we were shocked when we learned that just as many are diagnosed with brain cancer as breast cancer each day. Yet brain cancer only receives a fraction of the same funding. We want to let the public know that cutting edge clinical trials do exist for brain cancer, and many physicians remain unaware of these clinical trials.

On April 24, 2010 at Sloan's Lake Park in Denver, Miles for Hope will hold a 5k and 1 Mile walk around Sloan's Lake Park in an effort to raise awareness of this deadly disease, and to raise critically needed funding. Miles for Hope will be donating a portion of proceeds raised from this event to The Children's Hospital to be used towards awareness and research. "Brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children under the age of 20, and we feel that by giving back locally, it not only provides hope for pediatric patients, but helps to raise awareness on a local as well as national level," stated Gibbs.

"Registration is currently open, and we encourage people to register early and to start, or join, a team for the event," stated Gibbs. "In addition, sponsorship opportunities exist for this event and are available on a limited basis. We encourage local businesses to embrace this event and our cause, which will assist us in funding treatments that provide a better quality of life for patients."
