Raise your glasses for Starkbierzeit in Munich

People heading to Munich at the end of February will find themselves amid a mini Oktoberfest.

MUNICH, GERMANY, January 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anyone who is planning to book accommodation in Munich early this year who would like to experience the frivolity of Oktoberfest is in luck.

At the end of February, the south German city hosts Starkbierzeit, which is described as a miniature Oktoberfest by the Guardian.

The newspaper included the event in its list of the best local festivals for 2010.

Starkbierzeit translates as "strong beer time" and is a celebration of doppelbocks, some of the region's strongest ales.

Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, recommended the event and noted that the best place to join in is the Paulaner Keller on Hochstrasse, which is the "spiritual home" of the festivities.

Mr Hall added that the alcohol content of many of the beverages on offer is 7.5 per cent or higher so it is advisable to avoid keeping pace with the locals.

Running from February 25th to March 27th, there is plenty of time for beer-lovers to explore all the city has to offer and sample many of the local brews.

As well as the ale, visitors can expect all the usual parties, dances and Lederhosen-clad frivolity associated with Oktoberfest but on a smaller scale, travel website Festival Pig explained.

To make the most of the Starkbierzeit - you should consider booking your hotel Munchen to avoid disappointment.
