Active Gaming Heads for London

Active gaming, which combines physical activity with video games, is coming to The Winch in Swiss Cottage.

SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND, January 31, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The concept, known as Gamercize, aims to get children active by using computer games as an incentive, and the new dedicated active gaming room will be launched at The Winchester Project, on 1st February 2010.

Gamercize encourages children to get moving, by linking equipment such as an exercise bike or stepper machine to a games console such as an Xbox 360, PlayStation2, PS3 or Wii.

As the player starts to step or cycle their control pad becomes activated, and they can start playing the game.

But if they stop moving then their control pad is de-activated and the game is paused until they begin stepping or cycling again.

The concept is currently being used by Primary Care Trusts, School Sports Partnerships in various locations around the country, and will be available for everyone at The Winch, from Monday, February 1st

Children from the London charity will be given the chance to try out the equipment during the day, and anyone else working within with children or the PCT in the Camden area who would like to find out more is also invited to go along to a demonstration, which begins at 4pm.

The Winchester Project, which was established in 1973, works with children and young people from 4 to 25 years old, providing a range of activities and opportunities at low or no cost.

Event Location: The Winchester Project, 21 Winchester Road, London NW3 3NR.
