Innovative Carrier-Grade Wireless Network Optimization Solutions

/24-7PressRelease/ - BOULDER, CO, April 28, 2006 - Carrier Access Corporation (NASDAQ: CACS), an industry leader in providing broadband communications equipment, announced the introduction of a major software release for the FLEXengine technology that adds the switching and prioritization of 3G radio data protocols and the ability to integrate 2G, 3G and IP traffic over a common group of bonded T1 access circuits. In addition to multiple T1 support, FLEXengine in the 5.0 Release of the MASTERseries platform supports high speed DS3 transport and 3G radio connections for wireless carrier Radio Access Networks.

FLEXengine technology is a new high-capacity, software defined circuit and packet processing technology for cell site access, switching center and transport hub locations. FLEXengine integrates data interworking functions to optimize the transport of 2G and 3G broadband data over both existing and new packet-based broadband wireless access networks. According to Kevin Antill, SVP of Sales at Carrier Access, "FLEXengine technology allows wireless carriers to reduce expenditures in upgrading transport networks from cell sites to mobile switching centers when deploying new web and video data services." Antill added, "Software features are provided to implement progressive levels of voice and data bandwidth upgrades and packet access technologies, based on network readiness and service needs. MASTERseries Release 5.0 enables our customers such as Cingular to smartly allocate and optimize their network bandwidth."

Leveraging its 12-year tenure as a progressive market leader in network access technologies, Carrier Access offers this next-generation technology for both new product shipments and as an upgrade to its installed base of over 55,000 cell sites within leading mobile wireless carriers.

According to Paul C. Daubitz President ATI-Telecommunications, a telecommunications consultancy, "The MASTERseries brings cellular carriers a new protocol suite that gives them more transport flexibility to manage their existing RDN (Radio Data Network) while enhancing their capabilities to meet growth in 3G and 4G systems."
