Dusseldorf's Rochus Club hosts the ARAG World Team Cup tennis event from May 16th to 22nd.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, March 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thousands of tennis fans will be heading to Dusseldorf later this year for the ARAG World Team Cup.

As the annual team championship of the ATP Tour, the event is one of the highlights of the German city's sporting calendar and attracts spectators from around the world.

The clay court tournament takes place at the Rochus Club and is contested by eight nations in a round-robin format.

With prize money worth EUR1.5 million (GBP1.3 million) at stake, people staying in Dusseldorf hotels can expect a fiercely competitive event with plenty of exciting action on the court.

Many players view the tournament as an ideal way to prepare for the French Open in Paris, so spectators can expect to see stars of the sport such as Juan Martin del Potro, Phillipp Kohlschreiber, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Monaco taking part.

This year's tournament will run from May 16th to 22nd and anticipation is already growing among sports enthusiasts in the region.

Qualification is based on the year-end ATP entry rankings and Serbia are the defending champions, having defeated Germany 2-1 in the final last year.

The victorious team consisted of Nenad Zimonjic, Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki and Arsenije Zlatanovic.

Germany, Spain, Sweden and the US share the record for the most World Team Cup titles, have each won the competition four times since it began in 1978.

Australia have claimed the title three times and finished as runners-up on six occasions.

Tickets for the World Team Cup vary according to the court and the location in the stands, with prices ranging from EUR10 for standing places to EUR119 for seats on the day of the final.

The Rochus Club is one of the oldest tennis establishments in Germany and has nearly 1,500 members. Its facilities include 13 outdoor clay courts, as well as an indoor tennis area.

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for the World Team Cup is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hotel Dusseldorf as early as possible."
