Blepharoplasty

Aging can be difficult for everyone. Over time, your skin will sag, crease, and even fold, making you appear much older than you actually are or feel.

CHICAGO, IL, March 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aging can be difficult for everyone. Over time, your skin will sag, crease, and even fold, making you appear much older than you actually are or feel. One of the areas on the body most prone to these effects is the skin around the eyes. Fortunately, plastic surgeons perform a procedure known as blepharoplasty to reverse this sagging skin.

Blepharoplasty, or eyelift, involves removing the excess skin and fat from above or below the eyes so that you look younger, healthier, and more alert. While this procedure is great for older individuals looking for a way to appear younger, younger people with prominent bags below their eyes are also great blepharoplasty candidates.

Many people have found that blepharoplasty can make them look less tired and appear years younger. Recently, actors have discovered this wonderful procedure, and it's even been rumored that George Clooney has had the procedure.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Before any procedure is performed, you will meet with a plastic surgeon in your area to discuss your goals and medical history to determine if you're a good blepharoplasty candidate. Once a plan of action has been made, you will set a date for the actual procedure.

During the blepharoplasty procedure, your plastic surgeon will numb the area around the eyes with either local anesthetic or twilight sedation. Once you are not in danger of any discomfort, your doctor will make their incisions. Blepharoplasty incisions are made in the creases above or below the eyelids, and excess skin and fat is then removed.

After this tissue has been removed, the incisions are closed with sutures and you can begin the recovery process. The entire blepharoplasty procedure usually takes about one or two hours.

Recovery
Recovery from blepharoplasty is not nearly as intensive as other more serious plastic surgeries like abdominoplasty or arm lifts. After your blepharoplasty is complete, you will need to have a friend or family member drive you home and possibly help you around the house for the first couple days.

The most important aspects of the healing process are that you do not apply any eye make-up and you avoid strenuous physical activity for at least two weeks after the blepharoplasty has been completed.

A great aspect of blepharoplasty is that any resulting scars are naturally hidden within the creases of the upper and lower eyelids. In addition to this, blepharoplasty can be combined with other facial procedures like facelifts, lip lifts, and BOTOX.

If you're looking for a wonderful way to gain that younger, healthier appearance and you live in the Chicago, Illinois area, please visit the website of Dr. Placik today to schedule your initial blepharoplasty consultation.
