Dusseldorf to Celebrate Japan Day - LateRooms.com

The Japanese community of Dusseldorf is set to hold a special celebration on May 29th.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, April 01, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People heading to hotels in Dusseldorf later this year could find that their visit coincides with the Japan Day celebrations.

As the city with the largest Japanese community in Germany, Dusseldorf will celebrate its diversity with a day of entertainment and special events on May 29th.

Taking place for the ninth time this year, 'Japantag' is expected to attract more than one million visitors to the banks of the Rhine.

Highlights of the event are likely to include sumo wrestling and karate demonstrations, live music, stage shows, traditional Japanese dancing and presentations of samurai armour.

To round things off, there will also be a dramatic fireworks display put together using the finest pyrotechnics from the Far East.

The event also represents a chance for fans of Japanese Manga animation and comics to meet up, while delicious sushi and other dishes will be available for visitors to sample.

People wishing to get the best view of the fireworks can book a boat trip, which will take them out on the Rhine while the sky above Dusseldorf is lit up with spectacular colours.

Due its location on the Rhine, Dusseldorf has become a popular venue for many carnival events and the banks of Germany's famous river provide a great location to enjoy the party.

Another aspect of the Japan Day festivities is the Bon dance, which is linked to the Japanese Buddhist custom of honouring the departed spirits of a person's ancestors.

According to the Japanese Club of Dusseldorf, there are about 6,500 Japanese people living in the city, representing the third largest population of its kind in Europe.

Commenting on Japan Day, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to Japan Day in Dusseldorf and who need hotels Dusseldorf to book early to avoid disappointment."
