Capgemini Executive Criticizes Protectionism in the U.S. and Cites Benefits of Offshore Outsourcing

In an exclusive video now airing on Nearshore Americas, a leading executive at global consulting firm Capgemini argues that protectionism is wrong and will continue to hamper the growth of the U.S. economy.

GUILFORD, CT, April 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "Protectionism I am not for. Protectionism slows down the growth of our own country and the benefits we provide," says Robbie Brillhart, vice president/BPO at Capgemini, who manages a Capgemini offshore delivery center in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The full interview is viewable on the homepage of Nearshore Americas http://www.nearshoreamericas.com, the premiere online media brand for the Nearshore outsourcing community.

Brillhart stresses that Capgemini uses a "right shore" strategy to place jobs where they make the most sense from a business perspective. "I'm not just an outsourcer that puts works in Guatemala. Where it's the right job in the right place - that's where we'll put that work," says Brillhart, who notes that Capgemini also has delivery centers in the United States that provide services to domestic organizations.

Brillhart's comments come at a time when hostilities about the "exporting of U.S. jobs" continue to resurface amid historically high unemployment. In the interview, Brillhart notes that the United States has traditionally been able to adapt to changing economic conditions and provide more value and innovation.

"It's not the part about moving the jobs away but it's an engine about creating new opportunities in other countries and being a part of a process of evolution," says Brillhart, who was interviewed by Nearshore Americas Founder and Editorial Director Kirk Laughlin.

Brillhart goes on to cite many of the positive impacts of outsourced professional services in emerging markets like Guatemala. The middle class often becomes stronger in countries where offshoring occurs, says Brillhart, and as a result, economic stability also improves. "I get chills just thinking about what we're doing as an industry in countries like Guatemala," says Brillhart. Capgemini also operates offshore delivery centers in Brazil, Chile and Argentina.
