Carlsbad Department of Development Starts Construction of the Cascades at Carlsbad

The Carlsbad Department of Development celebrates the start of construction of the first retail/restaurant building at the Cascades at Carlsbad.

CARLSBAD, NM, April 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carlsbad Department of Development celebrates the start of construction of the first retail/restaurant building at the Cascades at Carlsbad.

The Cascades at Carlsbad groundbreaking ceremony, held April 16th, marked the beginning of the future for the project. The new building, approximately 34,000 square feet, will be home to restaurants and retail establishments on the first floor, and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Records Office and the Carlsbad Department of Development offices on the second floor. Construction of the building will be completed by the end of this year.

"We are excited to see this one-of-a-kind project come to fruition," said Jeff Campbell, Marketing Director of the Carlsbad Department of Development. "The Cascades is going to really enhance Carlsbad's reputation as a tourist location and destination point, and it will give our community more things to do, more places to eat, and entertainment to enjoy." The ceremony was unique in that attendees poured Cascades-branded bottled water on a tree that will be planted next to the new building rather than the traditional shovel-in-dirt activity.

The Cascades at Carlsbad is an open-air marketplace with over 650,000 square feet available for development. The Cascades will offer retail, dining, and entertainment venues at the ground level and office space on the upper floors. There are plans to have upscale hotels and family entertainment centers within the project as well, creating a unique experience unlike anything within southeast New Mexico.
