MUSIC Semiconductors Revolutionizes CAM Market with New HARRP Product Line

CAMs (Content Addressable Memory) have smaller packages, lower prices and a new name.

MINNETONKA, MN, June 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- 21 years after pioneering the Content Addressable Memory Market, MUSIC introduces new product offerings with the smallest packages, lowest prices and a new name that sounds the function of CAM technology. Discrete CAMs are the most cost-effective way to deliver deterministic look-up functions to Internet Routing and data recognition to Artificial Intelligent, Video-Compression, Video-Streaming or Memory Caching applications. Now you can do it for $0.80 per device (in volume) with a package footprint of only 41 mm2 in a 118 landing HLA package by UTAC. The name HARRP stands for HLA packaged Asynchronous data Recognition and Recall Processors.

CAMs comparable to MUSIC's HARRP products traditionally cost from $10-$50 each, MUSIC's seven HARRP products cost from $0.80 - $4.45 in volume with table widths from 16 to 64 bits by depths from 512 to 8,192. The devices are optimized for immediate response on demand with Asynchronous architectures, lowering latency which is critical for efficient routing of video streams and other applications that tend to bog down the www today. HARRPs are optimized for binary or exact match memory recognition with some devices offering built in ternary or partial/best match recall functionality. RoHS compliant production available now.

Customers already prototyping HARRP products

"We at MUSIC are very excited to have this new product line. We've already shipped our first order for system prototypes," says Bill Mundy, Executive VP of Marketing. "The devices are ideal for last mile and edge routing applications like WiMAX, and LMDS; multiple control options also enable improved performance in Ethernet Switch Layer 2, 3 & 4, Multi-Protocol Routers, ATM Switches, Wireless Access points & Wireless Residential Broadband Gateways, IP Telephony, and DSLAM applications. We believe HARRPs may facilitate AI designs as the physical function of HARRPs closely resemble the operation of the human neocortex in memory recall and recognition."

Alternative engineering solutions to HARRPs include software search algorithms that take multiple clock cycles and may not resolve a match in time or embedded CAM solutions that pose significant engineering challenges that can result in millions of dollars wasted in development time. The low cost differentials and improved performance in choosing HARRP now make the risks of other solutions too expensive.

MUSIC has a new website online with full data sheets, pricing and applications support. Pricing is published for all volumes and offers reduced costs for all customers tied to volumes shipped during the life of a program, not just a contracted quantity. There's even an interactive Cookbook for the MH20x0 series products to help those unfamiliar with CAM interfaces understand the specific design requirements of our HARRP devices easily presenting complex specifications in an interactive self paced comprehensive format.

Founded in 1989, MUSIC Semiconductors is the longest running supplier of CAM devices, successfully supporting customers around the globe.
