Maintain Cheap Auto Insurance as Rates Expected to Rise

With states raising car insurance requirements consumers should ensure they find affordable coverage.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA, June 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As more states are beginning to reevaluate their auto insurance requirements and a number of them already raising minimum limits, rates are expected to be on the rise. This year has already seen Wisconsin making automobile coverage mandatory, Maryland raising requirements and Texas will be doing the same in less than six months; this can undoubtedly cause a rate increase and consumers should take the time to make sure they are not affected.

Last year Wisconsin doubled the state's liability requirements and this year made coverage mandatory. In addition, the required limits for uninsured motorist more than doubled which makes finding cheap car insurance a necessity if individuals wish to find an affordable policy and keep it in effect; the fine for being caught driving uninsured can reach $500.

Additionally, Texas will be increasing mandatory liability limits from $25,000 for bodily injury to one person and $50,000 for bodily injury per accident to $30,000 and $60,000 respectively. With higher limits usually comes additional premium. Fortunately, consumers have the ability to shop around and find more affordable policies if they see their current rate increase.

According to the Texas Department of Insurance, "Shopping for an insurance policy is similar to shopping for any major item. It's best to compare companies and products to find the best price, quality, and customer service."

A number of states have considerably low coverage requirements and with the increasing cost of medical care it would be no surprise that more states are considering increasing the required amounts of liability auto insurance. Even individuals who have not had a rate increase should occasionally shop around, especially at time of renewal; there may be a cheaper company available.
