Michael Tabman, Retired FBI Agent and President of SPIRIT Asset Protection, LLC Comments on Recent New Mexico Workplace Shooting

Michael Tabman, retired FBI Agent and now a security consultant discusses the continuing incidents of workplace violence shootings. Training and early intervention are necessary to reduce the risks of these tragedies.

OVERLAND PARK, KS, July 15, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Twice this year, Michael Tabman, 24-year FBI veteran and former police officer, commented on deadly workplace shootings. One was is Alabama and another was in Missouri. Now the same tragedy has occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Tabman said, "This was another tragic and disturbing workplace violence incident. The story is not new. A former employee returns to the workplace to commit murder. The incident that triggered this deadly outburst appears to have involved a personal relationship. As with other workplace shootings, a specific life event is often the immediate cause for such irrational behavior. Then, the gunman turns the gun on himself.

"The violent trend will continue as financial strains, corporate bullying and bureaucratic intransigence conspire to create an almost unbearable level of stress. Additional factors such as marital problems or health issues can push anyone over the edge. The motive for this shooting is unknown at this point, but the series of events appear to be consistent with previous workplace shootings," said Tabman.

Tabman's company SPIRIT Asset Protection, LLC with offices in Kansas City and St. Louis trains companies to implement plans and procedures for reducing the risk of workplace violence. They stress the need for identifying the warning signs and intervening early. Training includes table top exercises, videos and seminars. Tabman's new book, Walking the Corporate Beat: Police School for Business People, discusses the red flags of workplace violence as well as the myriad of other business operational risks, drawing upon his 27 years of law enforcement.
