LateRooms.com - Berlin Gets Ready for Festival of Lights

Spectacular illuminations will be seen on the streets of Berlin for two weeks in October.

BERLIN, GERMANY, September 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Next month's Festival of Lights could offer people staying in Berlin hotels a chance to see the city in a new perspective.

The German capital will be illuminated by special fireworks, lamps and lanterns for a two-week period, during which famous landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate are set to be bathed in multi-coloured lights.

Running from October 13th to 24th, the event will see more than 50 important buildings around Berlin light up in spectacular fashion as the autumn nights draw in.

The festival organisers run 'light-seeing' tours throughout the festival, giving people a chance to visit each of the city's illuminated structures by bus, bicycle or on foot.

Meanwhile, a host of one-off events have also been scheduled for the occasion, including the Night of Open Doors on October 16th.

This offers visitors the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the participating buildings and was a highly popular event on last year's Festival of Lights schedule.

Elsewhere, people staying in Berlin during the festival can enjoy live music at the Jazz at the Ministergardens event.

Taking place in the area near Potsdamer Platz on October 22nd, this evening of smooth jazz sounds will feature performers from all over Germany, including Kitchen Grooves, the Contrast Quartet and the Dietmar Osterburg Trio.

Tickets for Jazz at the Ministergardens can be bought online for EUR15 (GBP12.50) plus booking fee or EUR20 at the box office on the night of the event.

As usual, the finale of the Festival of Lights will be the City LightRun. Scheduled for the evening of October 23rd, this event will see participating athletes complete a 10km course that passes many of the city's illuminated landmarks before finishing at the Strasse des 17 Juni.
