LateRooms.com - Munich Prepares for International Festival of Film Schools

The International Festival of Film Schools is a showcase of young movie-making talent taking place in Munich next month.

MUNICH, GERMANY, October 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People staying in Munich hotels could stumble across the next Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott or Martin Scorsese at the International Festival of Film Schools.

Taking place between November 14th and 20th, the event is designed to showcase the work of the best up and coming film directors to movie lovers in the Bavarian capital.

Founded in 1981, the event has presented more than 3,300 films since it began and is now one of the most important festivals of its kind in the world.

A number of prizes are handed out to young directors taking part in the competition, including accolades for best short film, best documentary and best screenplay.

Last year, the award for best film went to Echo by Magnus von Horn, a Swedish-born director based in Poland.

He picked up a cheque for EUR7,500 (GBP6,540) for his psychological drama about a murder inquiry, which was praised by head of the jury Hans Steinbichler for tackling a "huge topic".

In total, prizes worth EUR56,500 were handed out to 11 different films in 2009. More than 60 movies from 27 countries featured in the festival.

This year's event is expected to be just as cosmopolitan, with film schools from around the world taking part once more.

As well as the large number of film students and industry experts, the week-long festival is highly popular with members of the public. A festival pass can be purchased for EUR30, while individual film screenings are priced at EUR5.

The pass gives visitors access to the full programme of events in Munich, with the exception of the opening night and the closing awards ceremony, which require special invitations.
