The Tarp is Needed Again in Haiti

The leading U.S. tarp supplier, Tarps Plus, sends large shipments of tarps to Haiti after the region is skirted by hurricane Tomas.

PALMDALE, CA, November 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Haiti once again is in hurried preparation as another natural disaster heads its way. Tomas is currently a tropical storm, and everyone watches breathlessly in hopes that it will not gain power to become a hurricane before it strikes land in this already broken and struggling country. As part of the preparation, the tarp is once again in high demand.

For months, families who survived the horrific earthquake of 2010 have been living under shelters constructed of a plethora of tents and tarps. These have provided a home for those who had no other shelter to rely on. Reconstruction efforts have been underway, though the going has been rather slow due to a lack of funds and supplies.

Children have gone back to school, though in many cases, this too has been organized under canvas tarps. Few buildings are left standing after the earthquake, and those that are standing are either badly damaged or already filled with homeless people.

But now another disaster is heading toward Haiti. Officials are encouraging the citizens of this country to find shelter or move somewhere else where family can take them in. People are frightened and many are worried about the homes they have started building. Will they have to start this painstaking process once again?

A spokes person for the tarps company stated, "We know that tarps are crucial when ever a store comes so we had to act fast."

The tarps are badly needed as everyone does their best to prepare quickly. Many are trying to protect the new homes that are being built from the heavy rain and winds that are sure to come soon. Others need a way to patch badly damaged structures so that they an find shelter there until the storm passes.

As rescue workers prepare to go back to this disaster area, they are packing not only tarps, food, clothing, and medical supplies, but as many tents and tarps as they can get their hands on. With so few existing poly tarp shelters already on this struggling island, it is sure that every one they can bring will be needed and used.
