House Owners Chase Energy Savings

Energy efficiency improvements are a hit with Danish home owners. The cold winter and increased climate awareness is motivating house owners for a critical look at their energy consumption, shows a survey from Realkredit Danmark's Kloge m2.

LYNGBY, DENMARK, February 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "For the first time, energy renovations top the list of preferred improvements among home owners. Earlier people favored kitchen and bath in particular. One explanation for this change can be the cold winter, rising energy taxes and more focus on the climate," says Lars Majgaard Kjaer, chief of valuation, Realkredit Danmark.

Realkredit Danmark's survey on the house improvement website Kloge m2 ('Smart m2') shows that 4 out of 10 house owners are taking or plan to take energy improvement measures, while only every third house owner now wants a new kitchen or bath.

Energy renovations have moved from fifth place to first place in a very short time. But not all energy investments measure up equally.

Get the most out of energy expenses

"Many energy renovations change the look of the house. So it's important to select a solution that matches the individual house. It's also a good idea to have an energy plan made on Kloge m2 that gives an overview of where it pays to make an effort. That way one avoids inexpedient investments in say, windows, if it would actually be better to re-insulate the facade," says Lars Majgaard Kjaer.

With a Kloge m2 Energy Plan from Realkredit Danmark and Bolius Boligejernes Videnscenter, home owners get a good overview of concrete suggestions for energy efficiency improvements as well as an estimate of the cash savings. And at the same time one gets a realistic idea of the cost of each project, so it's easy to prioritize.

The Energy Calculator

"Home owners with a taste for energy improvements can click on to Kloge m2 already today and calculate the cost of a full energy renovation, a new roof, house extensions (in Denmark, we commonly refer to them as Tilbygninger priser or other improvements. The Energy Calculator also shows how much a home owner can gain in concrete savings," says Lars Majgaard Kjaer.
