CHARLOTTE, NC, September 26, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is voted Green Car Journal's Green Car of the Year. While being a model that pollutes less, the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid also scored in the area of fuel consumption. It consumed an average of 30 percent less fuel.
What adds credence to this model's award is the fact that its fuel consumption was almost half that of other V8's in city conditions, where the SUV is put to its maximum use. It scored over names that included Malibu; Mazda Tribute; Saturn Aura and Nissan Altima. These five hybrid models were shortlisted after an elimination round, in which 12 models took part.
Green Car Journal's jury consisted of well-known names from the industry and environment, such as Carroll Shelby, Jay Leno, Carl Pope from Sierra Club; Christopher Flavin from Worldwatch Institute; Jonathan Lash from World Resources Institute, and Jean-Michel Cousteau, who represented Ocean Futures Society.
This jury also took into consideration other factors while handing this award. Important among these were for how much time this technology was in use with the manufacturer, the number of such vehicles the manufacturer produced, and the scope these environment-friendly technologies afforded for the evolution of more such vehicles.
