Chrysler has thrown every amenity but the kitchen sink into its new Caravan: 13 cup holders, dual pop-down television screens, three seating configurations with Barcalounger comfort and an adjustable center console that is shared with the second row. It lives up to Chrysler's family-room-on-wheels hype.
The newest ingredient for functional family seating is the all-new Swivel 'n Go seating system. Swivel 'n Go offers second row seats that swivel 180 degrees to face the third row with a removable table that installs between the two rows, covered storage bins in the floor of the second row, third-row uncovered storage and fold-in-the-floor third-row seating. Swivel 'n Go also offers an available industry-first integrated child booster seat in the second-row quad chair and an available minivan-exclusive one-touch power-folding third-row 60/40 bench seat.
The optional two video screens get Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and the Cartoon Network via Sirius satellite radio. Second-row passengers can watch one channel, while third-row passengers watch a DVD or play a video game. Even the front-row passengers can watch a movie as long as the minivan is in park, creating a driveway drive-in possibility.
Base price for a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE is just over $22,000, including destination. This MSRP is $1,950 lower than the previous model but includes more features. The story is much the same for the nicely equipped 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, which carries a sticker price of $27,535. That's about $1,000 less than the outgoing SXT, and with more features.
