FrontDoorSoftware Corporation Announces New "Safe Campus" Laptop Theft Prevention Program

FrontDoorSoftware Corporation has launched a laptop theft prevention program for schools. The "Safe Campus," program makes laptop theft prevention and recovery software available to students and faculty on a campus that enlists in the program.

EVERGREEN, CO, March 23, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- FrontDoorSoftware Corporation has recently launched a new laptop theft prevention program for universities and school campuses. Titled "Safe Campus," this program makes the innovative FrontDoorSoftware laptop theft prevention and recovery program available to all registered students and faculty on a campus that enlists in the program.

"Our laptop theft prevention software has provided an important service to thousands of individuals across the world, and now we've created a package for schools and universities to help prevent one of the most common crimes on campuses," said Carrie Hafeman, president of FrontDoorSoftware Corporation.

When a school or university signs up for the program, they are provided with their own FrontDoorSoftware URL to share with students and staff members. This URL provides each individual with the instructions for uploading the software to their computer and enlisting them in the "Safe Campus" program.

Once installed on a computer, the software gives the owner several methods to track down and recover the computer if it is lost or stolen.

- Each laptop registered is automatically entered into an international web-based recovery center that collects the unique machine address (MAC address), owner information and equipment information, making it easier to spot if someone is trying to resell a stolen laptop.
- The owner can activate a digital asset tag that displays contact information on the boot-up screen. This provides a way for someone in possession of a lost laptop to contact the rightful owner.
- The owner can activate a "Stolen Computer" message that appears on the boot-up screen notifying whoever is using the computer that it has been reported stolen and helping prevent an illegal resale of the computer.
- The owner can send a lockdown code to the computer effectively freezing access to programs and protecting personal owner information.
- The owner can activate an audio message announcing to all within hearing distance that the laptop was stolen, essentially allowing the computer to sound its own distress signal and shout for help. Owners can even create their own custom message to yell at the thief.
- The owner can also send a message that appears on the boot-up screen and attempt to communicate in real time with whoever has the computer and negotiate its safe return.
- And finally, the program installs on the computer a geo-tracking mechanism that tries to pinpoint its location on a Google Map and send that location to the rightful owner should someone boot-up the stolen laptop and attempt to access the Internet.

"From large institutions like Portland State University with more than 28,000 students to more intimate sized campuses like Brown University with 8,500 students, our 'Safe Campus' program has been proven to help reduce laptop theft on campuses and significantly increase the rate of recovery of stolen and missing laptops," said Hafeman.

The base price for a school or university to enroll in the program is only $1 per student and provides each student or staff member who signs up with a four-year license of this valuable software program. Larger schools with more than 4,000 students can try the program for $3,995 for the first year if they order during the current promotion, which ends June 1, 2011.
