Mountain Rose Herbs to Donate All Rootstalk Festival Profits to Cascadia Wildlands

The nation's leading organic herb and tea company is dedicating staff and financial resources to produce a new sustainability festival in Oregon. The Rootstalk Festival is set to generate a substantial contribution for beneficiary Cascadia Wildlands.

EUGENE, OR, April 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mountain Rose Herbs has announced that the company will organize and host a three day benefit festival for Cascadia Wildlands in September of this year. Nearly unheard of in the business community, Mountain Rose Herbs will donate all profits raised by ticket and merchandise sales from the Rootstalk Festival to the Oregon based non-profit organization that works to protect threatened wilderness throughout the Pacific Northwest.

When Mountain Rose Herbs started planning Rootstalk over a year ago, their vision was to create an event that offers education, fosters community, and supports local non-profits. "It was really important to us that Rootstalk could become an awareness campaign and fundraiser for non-profits we admire," said Irene Wolansky, Marketing Director for the organic herbal products company. "We knew that we wanted to donate all of the profits raised at the festival to Cascadia Wildlands. It's a pretty radical venture for any business to take on."

The company has invested countless hours of planning into Rootstalk over the past year with a fulltime event planning staff and upfront capital to secure the event's venue, entertainment, website, and speakers. "Defending our forests and building community is certainly worth the investment," said Shawn Donnille, Vice President at Mountain Rose Herbs. "I've never heard of another company using their time and resources to host a benefit of this caliber. Hopefully, we'll inspire a new business model that allocates significant time and money for projects that truly improve our communities."

The first annual Rootstalk Festival will offer classes throughout the weekend from 35 experts and environmental groups on sustainable living, herbal medicine, wilderness skills, urban farming, and homesteading projects. The festival will also feature daily entertainment by musicians and performance artists from around the state, a masquerade ball, an organic food court, and a vendor bazaar with sustainably handmade goods.

"We're excited to see the community come together to celebrate and share this unique experience while supporting the critical work Cascadia Wildlands is doing to defend our ecosystems. It's going to be really powerful," said Wolansky.

The Rootstalk Festival will be held September 22nd-25th at the Oregon 4-H Center on 300 acres of old-growth forested land. To learn more about Rootstalk and to purchase tickets for the event, visit the festival's website at www.rootstalkfest.com.
