    LONDON, ENGLAND, April 23, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Zoe Wanamaker will star in a London production of The Cherry Orchard, which is being staged at the National Theatre.

The show will run from May 10th to July 28th 2011 and retell the famous story, which was written by Anton Chekhov.

Fans may recognise Wanamaker for her roles in television and cinema projects, but she is an equally accomplished stage actress.

She plays the role of Ranyevskaya, who opts to save her family estate and refuse an offer of help from a local peasant entrepreneur despite her own fading wealth.

Although born in New York, Wanamaker's artistic endeavours in the UK earned her a CBE, after she became a British citizen in 2000.

In a statement, the organisers remarked: "Set at the very start of the 20th century, The Cherry Orchard captures a poignant moment in Russia's history as the country rolls inexorably towards 1917."

Tickets for the play cost between GBP12 and GBP30, with evening performances beginning at 19:30 BST and matinees starting at 14:00 or 14:30.
