Best Friends and Partners Expand New York State DVD Rental Kiosk Network

VANCOUVER, BC, May 13, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Owning and operating a network of DVD rental kiosks provides supplemental and primary income for working people and entrepreneurs alike. Many DVDNow owner-operators entered into this business because they desire financial independence and the freedom to spend time on the good things in life that are most important to them. This is what Toni Carlos was thinking when she partnered up with her best friend Sue Bacey and started their DVDNow rental business, DVD To Go.

Her most recent position being the Director of New York Compliance, Toni has been an attorney for 15 years. 3 Years ago she hired Sue as one of her employees, and they grew to be best friends after the passing of Toni's husband. "My priorities shifted," Toni explains, "I wanted more time with my 2 kids (7 and 13) and more freedom to live life, instead of being tied to a job. Sue always worked independently, but wanted to invest herself in something that would be more rewarding."

The duo had both been independently researching many different franchises, yet ultimately decided on DVDNow Kiosks. "Sue found an article in Business Week naming the DVD rental kiosk business as one of the top 10 franchise opportunities." Toni at the same time had been tuning in to financial news radio broadcasts and stated that during one such broadcast "the newscaster touted the DVD rental kiosk business as an up and coming business primarily because Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy." With the rapid decline of traditional brick and mortar video stores, DVD rental kiosks are popping up everywhere across the country. "We independently found the DVD kiosk business promising [and] we decided this was the business we wanted to invest our time and money in."

Sue and Toni placed their first DVDNow rental kiosk in a new grocery store. To begin with, this first kiosk was a supplement to their employment income. Approximately one year into their DVDNow distributorship there occurred an unexpected turn of events. "A week before Christmas, my supervisor advised me that my department would have to be dismantled," Toni explains, "I had to lay off my best friend a few days before Christmas." In light of these difficult circumstances, Toni and Sue began to explore the benefits of investing in their existing DVD rental business and expand into a network.

Toni and Sue had consulted with several successful DVDNow owner-operators and had received very positive feedback on the concept of expansion. They decided to take charge of their future and expanded their existing DVD rental kiosk network by adding 6 new machines to DVD To Go. "What we know is that the DVD kiosk business is very young and has much to grow," says Toni, "We want to be part of its growth." Upon the success of these additional machines, Sue and Toni hope to expand even further.

DVDNow Kiosks stands out from other businesses when it comes to the encouragement and support provided to their DVD rental kiosk owner-operators. When asked about their feelings on the support they have received, Sue and Toni have said, "DVDNow has been very supportive of our quest to be successful in the DVD kiosk business. They have given us many resources to succeed and are always ready and willing to help in any issues we may have. DVDNow is not like many franchisers - they are here to support and are very proud of each kiosk operator's success."
