PokerListings.com Launches 2011 Series Coverage with "Best Bets" Preview: Women

PokerListings.com is kicking off its signature World Series of Poker 2011 coverage with a new feature on Women to Watch at the 2011 WSOP. A new WSOP preview piece will go up every day until May 31 when live WSOP coverage will begin.

VALLETTA, MALTA, May 18, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- PokerListings.com, the world's largest online poker guide, launched its coverage of the 2011 World Series of Poker* today with the first part in its annual Best Bets preview series: Women.

Featured in the piece are three of the most talented women in the game of poker - and the names most likely to have the biggest impact on the 2011 WSOP.

Yale Law Student, civil rights advocate and LGBT activist Vanessa Selbst - winner of $3.4 million in poker tournaments in the past 18 months alone - heads the list, and thinks the era of women filling final tables is just beginning:

"I actually think that if you look at any of these major tour events, the women are going to be better than the average player," she said. "There are fewer of them, but the ones that are here are doing really well."

"Obviously women have the ability to be just as capable at poker as men, and I think it's just a matter of time until we start to see a lot more women at major final tables."

Also featured in the post are several members of the "new wave" of young female players including Liv Boeree, Leo Margets, Lauren Kling and Melanie Weisner.

Added EPT San Remo winner, model and astrophysics grad Liv Boeree:

""Without question women are getting better," she said. "We're seeing this emergence of particularly young women, who in my opinion are just as good as the best male players out there."

The Best Bets preview series continues each day this week with a new post highlighting some of the "lesser known" subgroups of poker players that are most likely to show up in the WSOP headlines this year.

Included are players from several countries around the world and from all walks of life, including the Chess world, the Pro Sports world and the Celebrity world.

"We've been under the ropes covering the World Series of Poker since 2005," says PokerListings.com Editor-in-Chief Matt Showell, "and the WSOP is and always will be the epicenter of poker culture - more so an international epicenter every year."

"It's truly a 'world' championship, and easily holds up as one of the best championship events in any sport. No other sport is as inclusive, as unpredictable or as filled with human interest stories as the WSOP is, hands down.

"The $150 million or so up for grabs is also pretty remarkable.

"As long as the WSOP exists, we'll be there to cover it. And also, we hope, make a little profit on our prop bets."

PokerListings.com's exclusive live coverage this year begins June 1 and will include:

- Live updates from high-profile events including the $50k Player's Championship, the $25k Heads-Up Championship and the $10k Main Event
- Daily real-time blogs and news recaps from every event.
- Daily Main Event Video Show
- WSOP Photo of the Day
