Friends, Sangria, and Festivals: Single Girl Summer Celebrates Fun in Chicago

Author Deanna Kimberly Burrell releases novel, Single Girl Summer, on the Summer Solstice.

CHICAGO, IL, May 31, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Windy City Publishers announces the release of a new novel, Single Girl Summer, where author Deanna Kimberly Burrell showcases the trials and triumphs of life, love, and relationships. We are introduced to the characters Button Jackson, Dawn Martin, and Meghan Cherry-Henderson at a crucial time in each woman's life. They form an alliance and vow to make the most of the upcoming summer in Chicago. Against the backdrop of festivals, picnics, and al fresco dining, they share relationship perspectives, face fears, heal deep emotional wounds, and learn the power of forgiveness. Button, Dawn, and Meghan come together by chance, grow together as friends, and ultimately discover that for every girl, there's a season. Single Girl Summer will be released on the Summer Solstice, June 21st, and is sure to find its way into every summer tote bag, beach reading list, and book club across the country.

Single Girl Summer is an upbeat, honest, and inspiring tale of contemporary women that showcases the universal themes of love, friendship, heartache, healing, family, and growth. Readers can not only identify with the characters and their good and bad life choices, but also find comfort in learning how Button, Dawn, and Meghan deal with the consequences. Reading Single Girl Summer is like talking to your three best girlfriends. The novel isn't just a collection of words, but a celebration of women from all walks of life who enjoy contemporary fiction in an urban setting.

"It's important for me to empower women. We are constantly being told that we need a man to validate our lives or to move forward. Relationships are wonderful compliments, but only if you're ready for one. I want women to understand that they need to complete themselves before they dive into serious romantic relationships," says Burrell.

Burrell's inspiration for Single Girl Summer emerged from various avenues. She points to the iconic movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, and hit TV show, Sex and the City, as two areas of influence. Burrell drew from the independence, risk-taking complexity, and the powerful vulnerability of Holly Gollightly and Carrie Bradshaw, and inserted those qualities into her characters in Single Girl Summer. Taking it a step further, Burrell didn't want to leave out the influence of family dynamics, and chose to show how each character's background molded and shaped their lives and decisions. Another inspiration for the novel was Burrell's own life. After her divorce, Burrell was constantly being asked for advice on being married verses the single life, and was encouraged by friends and family to compile her insightful stories and advice into a book. She felt the divorce was an invaluable growth experience, and it was her duty to capture everything she learned and share those lessons with others. Single Girl Summer is a creative read that is every bit as therapeutic as it is entertaining.
