SecQ.me Wins Top 5 for Ericsson Application Award

SecQ.me, the award-winning safety mobile app, also releases Sony LiveView PlugIn, providing new ways to keep the family safe.

PLEASANTON, CA, June 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- SecQ.me wins a top five position in the highly prestigious Ericsson Application Awards, competing against over 200 applications. The young start-up has been on a roll, with SecQ.me available in over 5 Android App Stores Worldwide, iTunes and has just released the Sony LiveView PlugIn. The innovative app helps watch-over family or friends when they travel, play in the neighborhood, at the mall, or coming home late at night. Based on prevention and location-based technology, the app can be used to register an event, track using GPS, and issue a call for help when they don't arrive safely. SecQ,me was selected among five finalists in the 'company category', for developing an application based on the Android platform that addresses the theme "Connected Things" and making use of at least one Ericsson Labs API, or Ericsson Mobile Broadband Development Kit, or run on Sony LiveView device.

The new Sony LiveView Plugin takes advantage of the Ericsson Labs API and runs on the device. Both SecQ.me and the Sony LiveView PlugIn are built on the principal of prevention is better than cure. When faced with an emergency situation, SecQ.me running on Android and Apple phones, or the Sony LiveView will automatically trigger help without the need for user intervention. Often people do not have the opportunity to call for help during an emergency, unable to use their phone's panic button, out of cell range, or forced in an unwanted position. SecQ.me uniquely reacts for you. The added benefit of the Sony LiveView device is it's small and easy to carry. As an extension of the SecQ.me core application, the LiveView PlugIn allows user to register "please watch over me" event, and will trigger an emergency or confirmation of safety directly on the LiveView device, without needing to take out the phone.

"We are very excited to be chosen as one of the semi-finalists by the Ericsson team," says James Khoo, SecQ.me founder and CEO. "The mobile app is on a roll. We have had very positive reaction from our early users and the ability to use SecQ.me on three key platforms, Android, Apple and Sony LiveView has been ideal for multi-device families. The award is a great way to sum up the progress."

"In addition to the SecQ.me app, a new Family Watch app was released in early June. Family Watch runs on the same technology platform as SecQ.me, and is targeted for the family," says Greg Dierickse, Chief Marketing Officer, GeniusWave. "The SecQ.me application is very innovative, and we have been striving to target and make it easy to use for many situations: for the family with Family Watch, on a simple yet elegant device, Sony LiveView, or with young adults using SecQ.me."
