Choosing the Right Implant Size for Breast Surgery

One of the most important decisions you need to make about your breast augmentation procedure is the size of your breast implants.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, July 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of the most important decisions you need to make about your breast augmentation procedure is the size of your breast implants. The size of your implants will be a determining factor in the final appearance you achieve. This may seem entirely subjective, but there are several factors to take into account when selecting an appropriate size for your frame.

How Do You Want to Look?

Are you looking for a mild enhancement, or do you want a buxom appearance? Your ultimate desires should inform your plastic surgeon's recommendation. However, an experienced plastic surgeon will work with you to assess your frame, and let you know if your desires are unrealistic for your body type. Taking into account such things as your height and weight, your plastic surgeon should be able to give you your desired look without producing a disproportionate appearance.

You should bring pictures of your upper body to your initial consultation. These pictures will give your plastic surgeon a better idea of what size implant would be best for your body type. Additionally, you should bring pictures of breasts that you find attractive and breasts you find unattractive, so your surgeon can customize an implant option that will provide you with the look you are hoping to achieve with your breast augmentation procedure.

Is Bigger Always Better?

Larger breasts can produce more cleavage and a shapelier form. They can also look unnatural and distract from other areas of your body. A good way to determine what size breasts may look best on your body is through nonsurgical experimentation at home.

Using a stocking filled with rice or a plastic zip lock bag filled with water, you can begin to determine what breast size you may be interested in. Breast implants are based on volume not cup size, so these tests have the added benefit of allowing you to tell your plastic surgeon what volume you find most attractive.

Breast implants are measured in cc. There are 30cc in an ounce. A common implant size is 300cc, or 10oz. Using a measuring cup, you can fill a stocking or plastic bag with rice or water before placing it underneath an unpadded bra. Look in a mirror, and determine if you want to go bigger. Start small, and gradually increase volume until you find the look you like best. Keep track of the volume and let your plastic surgeon know your results during your initial consultation.

Find a Breast Augmentation Surgeon You Trust

When you choose a plastic surgeon for your breast augmentation procedure, you want to make sure you trust their judgment. Looking at their breast augmentation before and after photos and making sure they are board-certified and sufficiently experienced can help you feel secure in your decision.

A good plastic surgeon will work with you on an individual basis, and not treat you like just another number. Assessing your full frame, and listening carefully to your desired outcome, your plastic surgeon should be able to make suggestions that will enhance your appearance, and meet all of your goals.
