Prompt Proofing Reviews Cameron Herold's Book "Double Double: How to Double Your Revenue and Profit in 3 Years or Less" After Attending Cameron Herold Seminar

We are taking a break from the Importance of Blogging series this week for a book review prompted by a seminar we recently attended. Read on for tips on how to double your business revenue or profit in three years or less, courtesy of Cameron Herold.

VANCOUVER, BC, July 15, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cameron Herold needs little introduction in the business world; possibly best known for his former role as COO of 1-800 Got Junk, a company whose revenues went from $2 million to $105 million in just six years under his leadership, Cameron now mentors businesses, offers business coaching and is a frequent guest speaker at business networking events and conferences.

Based in Vancouver, Cameron spoke last week at the Inn at the Quay in New Westminster to over 200 entrepreneurs. Prompt Proofing being also Vancouver based, this was an opportunity not to be missed, especially as the ticket price for the event, organized by ByzHub's owner, social networking whiz Owen Clark, included a copy of Cameron's book, Double, Double: How to Double Your Revenue and Profit in 3 Years or Less. Cameron's speech was entertaining, amusing and thought-provoking and I was likely not the only one who couldn't wait to devour the book. After all, what business owner wouldn't want to double their revenue in less than three years?

The opening chapter of Double Double focuses on what Cameron calls his 'painted picture'; along similar lines to a vision board, the 'painted picture' visualizes where you, and your company, see yourselves in three years' time (Cameron chooses three years specifically since he sees it as a manageable, not overwhelming, timeframe). Of course, those of you who read Prompt Proofing's earlier blogs on vision boards and goal setting will know that simply having the vision is not enough, you have to take steps to achieve it. Cameron's book addresses these steps in precise detail; he even shares his own 'painted picture' for his present company, Back Pocket COO. So - you create your 'painted picture', you focus on the picture, and you work backwards from there in order to achieve it.

Cameron's presentation last Thursday evening was all about generating media coverage for your business, something which features largely in his book also. "When the media calls, drop everything," says Cameron, whose greatest media success was arguably his appearance on Oprah, an impressive achievement by anyone's standards. However the book covers far more than this. Cameron writes with a down to earth, anecdotal style that engages the reader's interest throughout. If there is a keyword in the book, it is 'focus': focus on your 'painted picture', focus on marketing, focus on hiring, focus on communication, etc. Of these, it was his advice on focused marketing that resonated most with me; know who and where your desired customers are and choose your marketing tactics accordingly.

Much of Cameron's other advice in the book has to do with successful hiring and firing (yes, I did say successful, but compassionate, firing) together with very sensible advice on keeping your staff happy, from giving them 5 weeks' vacation - Cameron is a strong believer in a healthy work/life balance - to buying them expensive and comfortable office chairs!

Read Double Double for yourself - priced at only $24.95 Canadian or $22.95 US, it's an investment which could pay for itself a hundredfold. Every reader will get something different from the book; for me it was the 'painted picture', maintaining focus, and the marketing ideas. I particularly liked the idea of 'parketing' (parking your vehicle, with company logo, in high traffic areas) - look out for a Honda CRV with a Prompt Proofing decal in its rear window if you live in the Vancouver area!
