Shopping Coupons: Recession Heroes?

Shopping bills on the rise, disposable income falling, can shopping coupons save the day for families feeling the pinch?

SURREY, ENGLAND, October 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With a huge $3.7 billion being saved via shopping discounts in 2010, coupons certainly have a place to play in helping the average family through financial hardship.

The survey conducted by Valassis found that in 2010 78% of shoppers made use of shopping coupons compared with 63.6% of consumers using discount codes and coupons in 2007 before the financial crisis hit. When asked what tools consumers use when shopping online, coupon sites came in second place to the search engines, with 35% of customers using them as part of their shopping process.

It's also good news for store owners as other studies found that consumers who use discount coupons are likely to spend more money and return as a loyal customer. 91% of consumers who used discount codes said they would be likely to return, compared with 86% of customers who didn't use a coupon.

Quote, Christina Jackson, President, Discounts.ca "People like to save money in tough times. Our message to consumers is 'Why Pay Full Price'? Statistics show that coupon customers are more loyal and more discerning in where they shop. By using sites like ours, consumers let large stores know that if you can keep your prices down, we'll keep coming back to you."
