UK Wedding Photographer's Bookings Reflects Significant Changes to the Wedding Industry

More than ever now weddings across the UK are being held midweek and winter weddings are becoming increasingly common, but why is this and how does it affect suppliers in this multimillion pound industry?

BRISTOL, ENGLAND, October 16, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- More than ever now weddings across the UK are being held midweek and winter weddings are becoming increasingly common, but why is this and how does it affect suppliers in this multimillion pound industry?

Romantic Images are wedding photographers in Wiltshire providing a photography service throughout Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire and further afield. Owner Jeremy Gilson has seen a rapid increase in mid week bookings. His view is that couples are looking to significantly reduce costs and often the flexibility of mid week dates enables them to book at shorter notice as week day slots are often the last that venues sell. This is excellent news for suppliers, particularly photographers, who can typically take only one booking on a Saturday. Not only can a good photography business increase the number of bookings in a week but short notice bookings can help increase turnover. But what of prices? Discounts are needed to attract mid week wedding business and couples are more often than not looking for a good mid week-offer with a balance of price and quality.

Traditionally May to September was the wedding season but again this has changed in recent years. According to Jeremy 'There are several main drivers behind these changes- attractive deals for winter weddings, availability of venues and the knowledge that summer weather is often no more reliable than at other times of the year. Many brides picture a snowy landscape, roaring fireplaces and being warm inside on a cold winters day. This brings its challenges for the wedding photographer due to low light and more of the photographs being shot indoors. Many photography businesses including Romantic Images now specialise in winter weddings using new flash technology and video lights to create stunning images.

The move away from the traditional wedding season has brought with it significant opportunities for wedding suppliers. For any business an extended season is hugely beneficial and although discounts are often required to secure off season business this is a great aid to cash flow and revenue for small businesses trying to make a living from the wedding industry.

What of the future? With plans outlined to change legislation on ceremony times it is likely that evening and night time ceremonies will start to take place, this will cause challenges for venues, suppliers and celebrants alike as the wedding business starts to become a 24/7, 365 days of the year industry.
