Massachusetts College of Art and Design Hires Kortenhaus Communications

MassArt is on the move with $120 million campus expansion and new president Dawn Barrett.

BOSTON, MA, October 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kortenhaus Communications, an independently owned and operated public relations and integrated marketing firm in Boston, announced that it is now the agency of record for Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), the nation's first and only independent public art college. Located in Boston's Fenway Cultural District, MassArt recently launched a $140 million master campaign to expand its premises with the addition of a new design and media center, 493-bed dormitory and campus center as well as a complete overhaul of its public galleries. Adjacent to Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the slated additions to MassArt's campus will further transform the Fenway area and its Avenue of the Arts address, creating a higher public profile for the College and redefining MassArt as a hub for contemporary art and design.

At the forefront of the College's master expansion plan is newly appointed president, Dawn Barrett, who brings a valuable knowledge of urban planning and design having owned a successful design and consulting practice with professional commissions including educational and cultural institutions. The second woman to serve as president of MassArt, President Barrett took office on August 1, 2011 and has extensive administrative experience having served as Dean of the Architecture and Design Division at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for ten years.

MassArt's legacy of leadership in the field of art and design education began in 1873. Today, Massachusetts College of Art and Design is recognized as one of the premier institutions of art and design in the United States. Its Bakalar and Paine Galleries are the largest free, contemporary exhibition space in New England. Notable alumni include visual artist Christian Marclay, interior designer Kelly Wearstler, and artist William Wakeman.

Kortenhaus Communications will execute a strategic public relations program to promote MassArt, President Dawn Barrett, the Bakalar and Paine Galleries, and the College's community programming and calendar year of events.
