ASOS in Drive for More Customers to Start 'Recycling' Their Wardrobes on ASOS Marketplace, with Top Sellers Now Banking GBP1K Per Week to Fund Their Next Purchases

The economy is suffering yet ASOS customers are generating significant revenue through the free selling facility on ASOS Marketplace.

LONDON, ENGLAND, November 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The economy is suffering yet ASOS customers are generating significant revenue through the free selling facility on ASOS Marketplace.

Still in its infancy, ASOS Marketplace has yet to reach its first birthday and already fashion-savvy sellers are banking up to GBP1,000 per week by selling items from their own wardrobes.

Throughout November, ASOS Marketplace is raising awareness of its Free Listing facility, with a direct marketing campaign to its existing customers, as well as attendance at university and college graduate fairs, with the simple message "Not worn it for a while? Sell it on ASOS Marketplace".

Spearheading the recruitment drive is e-commerce director James Hart, who says, "We have some amazing boutique businesses from over 20 countries on the site, however we also have a thriving community of individuals taking advantage of free listings to sell their unwanted wardrobe items to our 1 million monthly Marketplace visitors. Over 10,000 of our listings are from these sellers, many of whom have already made thousands of pounds, some of whom turned out to be budding entrepreneurs and have graduated to become successful boutiques; I feel it's time to shout about this route into selling on our platform. Whether it's just to fund that next purchase or to make a start in business, it's free to list so I would encourage anyone who loves fashion to give it a go."

ASOS Marketplace
ASOS Marketplace is a digital platform Built as a fashion democracy created and controlled by users, all sellers, regardless of their size, are encouraged to photograph their much-loved items - old and new - street-style, telling the stories behind them and passing them on for sale to other fashion enthusiasts.

Daily topical blogs and weekly trend reports from the Marketplace team reinforce the uniquely editorial feel to a user-generated, content-driven e-tail environment. Marketplace leverages the existing two million active customers who are already part of the ASOS network, opening up a global reach to sellers. Sellers are given advice from ASOS's expert team on how to display their items to maximise selling potential.

A 10% selling fee will apply to individuals for each item sold, with no listing fees or pricing menus. Boutique owners will pay GBP50 per month (which includes an Account Manager at ASOS, ability to customise their store front and premium listing on Marketplace) and a 15% fee on each sale. Marketplace also has a substantial collection of vintage clothing, including vintage dresses, vintage t-shirts and also men's t-shirts.
