Molly's Fund Offers Online Support for Those with Lupus: Millions Suffer From the Disease; One Organization is Making a Difference...

When Molly McCabe was diagnosed with lupus she had no support, no idea where to turn, and couldn't share her fears and concerns. That inspired her to make a difference, to start an online community for those with lupus.

PORTLAND, OR, December 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- More than 5 million people worldwide suffer from the disease called lupus, yet, very few actually understand and know the disease. The medical community is becoming more aware, however diagnosis is still challenging, and support for those afflicted even more scarce. One organization is working to change this - Molly's Fund Fighting Lupus. The organization has online forums, support groups, resources and a Facebook page updated daily - where questions, concerns and ideas can be posted. When Molly McCabe was diagnosed with lupus, the journey was fraught with challenges, frustrations, and constant visits to emergency rooms and doctors. She had no support, no idea where to turn, and couldn't share her fears and concerns. That inspired her, and her mother Debbie, to make a difference. They both started Molly's Fund Fighting Lupus, and now the two, including staff, a board of directors, contributions by major health providers and researchers have propelled the organization to be one of the top lupus groups in the US. And more importantly, allows those diagnosed with lupus to know they are not alone.

"Though we are based in Portland, we have been able to provide support groups, resource information, and guidance to people all over world, and to let people know... they are not alone," said Molly McCabe, founder of Molly's Fund Fighting Lupus.

The organization recently launched a regional traveling exhibit called Voices of Lupus, just finished up a major fundraiser at the Portland Fall Home & Garden Show with their very own event called Serving Up Style, and kicked off a radio campaign in Portland and Seattle highlighting those with lupus and their stories. They also climbed the capitol steps in Oregon to have May designated as Lupus Awareness Month. Major accomplishments by a mom and daughter team determined to make a difference.
