Remote Access BIN Database API Launched by Binvalidation, LLC

BINValidation released a brand new BIN database service. Customers can now query the BIN database and conduct BIN validations remotely via an API.

CHICAGO, IL, December 29, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- BINValidation released a brand new BIN database service. Customers can now query the BIN database and conduct BIN validations remotely via an API.

What is BIN validation and why is there a need for a BIN database?

BIN is the abbreviation of Bank Identification Numbers. These numbers are used for credit or debit card verifications when a transaction occurs. Due to the ease of use of such cards, fraud is rampant in the business world. A card can be stolen and used to make an expensive purchase. When the retailer discovers that the purchase is made using a stolen card, it's often too late to do anything. The merchandise is already done. To make things worse, the bank charges the retailer a charged back fee and the retailer is forced to pay up. Such costs add up and in order for the business to remain viable, such costs are sometimes passed on to consumers. In the long run, this can be damaging to the business. Consumers end up having to pay higher prices to cover such business costs.

Fortunately, BIN databases are available at an affordable price to help combat fraud. This solution is especially useful for online retailers because card verification can take place in real time when the transaction takes place. In other words, a card must be checked against the database records and verified to be valid before the sale is approved. This effectively stops fraud before it can even take place.

Traditional BIN solution.

The traditional BIN solution is to buy a BIN database and then integrate it with the current e-Commerce website. If customers have the technical resources to perform the integration on their own, they can invest in the database, and have BIN checks performed on their live sites within a few short hours.

However, not all customers have the luxury of performing their own database integration. In this case, the API is a better solution.

BIN API database.

API stands for Application Programming Interface. This means that the BIN database would be hosted with the service provider. Clients do not need to download the database and install it on their website. Using their favorite programming language, they can send requests and obtain the information that they need to perform the checks using the API.

When the BIN database receives a request via the API, it will process the request and if everything is valid, return an XML response. The customer may then parse the output to perform BIN checks. For instance, the database will return information such as the brand of the card, card type and so on.

The key benefit for having an API solution is that there is no need to download and update the BIN database. BINValidation, the service provider, will perform all the updates. Customers only have to send API requests to get the information that they need from the up to date database.
