Norwalk Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor Announces New Procedure for Improved Treatment

Dr. Andrew Parker, Norwalk and Westport hearing aid specialist, offers patients new balloon sinus procedure.

NORWALK, CT, January 19, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Andrew Parker, Norwalk Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, is pleased to offer patients with chronic sinusitis relief with the new Balloon Sinus Procedure. With this new procedure, Dr. Parker can provide relief for chronic sinusitis.

"This new procedure allows me to help my patients breathe easier, and with less pain than the standard sinus surgery may have previously offered. Balloon Sinus Procedure is a safe and effective procedure for chronic sinusitis patients who are not responding well to medications and are seeking relief from uncomfortable and painful sinusitis symptoms," said Dr. Andrew Parker, Norwalk and Westport hearing aid specialist.

Sinusitis is an inflammation, or infection, of the straw-sized passages that drain each of the sinuses surrounding the nose and eyes. It can cause swelling and facial pain, debilitating headaches, and a sometimes pus-like nasal congestion. Acute sinusitis, triggered by colds or bad allergies, usually clears up within a month. However, more than 30 million Americans suffer from chronic sinusitis, meaning symptoms last longer than two months or regularly recur.

"Patients repeatedly try antibiotics, decongestants or steroid-containing nasal sprays, but about a quarter are thought to achieve adequate relief for their symptoms. With the Balloon Sinus Procedure, more patients can find relief from their sinus misery," said Dr. Parker, Westport Ear, Nose and Throat doctor.

In severe cases, doctors have used special tools snaked up the nose to enlarge the sinus openings by cutting out inflamed tissue and bone. It is highly effective, but is a painful procedure that can cause a week of swelling with the potential for scar tissue to re-block the sinus.

With the new Balloon Sinus Procedure, Dr, Parker, Westport ENT, opens inflamed sinuses in the same way that heart surgeons open up blocked arteries during balloon angioplasty. The procedure is less invasive than traditional sinus surgery, and effective at relieving symptoms of chronic sinusitis. Balloon Sinus Procedure allows patients to return to normal activities quickly. Unlike conventional sinus surgery, it does not include removal of bone or tissue from the nose.

Dr. Andrew Parker, Norwalk ENT, urges patients to visit Ear Nose and Throat of Fairfield County if they have been diagnosed with chronic sinusitis and are not responding well to antibiotics, as they may be a candidate for sinus surgery. With Balloon Sinus Procedure, patients can receive relief from their congestion for an improved quality of life.
