Berlin's Carnival Of Cultures

Between May 25th and May 28th, Berlin's annual Carnival of Cultures is due to take place, promising a picturesque display of dazzling lights and colourful costumes throughout the city streets.

LONDON, ENGLAND, February 29, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carnival, inaugurated in 1995, was developed as a consequence of the political and social changes following the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, and features a number of ethnic minority groups, young and old, representing a vast array of different cultures in order to depict the vibrant and ever-changing state of Berlin and its expressive diversity.

Over a period of four days, visitors can experience exotic food and drink, dancing and music, as well as concerts, parades, and parties along with the half a million people that are expected to turn up and join in the festivities which mark Berlin's status as the most international city in Germany. Performers from over seventy different countries will also be invited to perform.

During the celebrations, four stages are set up presenting music from the various cultures to the locals and tourists who flock from all over the globe to be part of this special event. Inspired by other world carnivals such as the Notting Hill Carnival and the Rotterdam Zomercarnival, in Berlin cultures blend together to produce an incredibly unique result - making it a truly spectacular occasion for visitors and performers alike.

On the 27th, the 'parade' is scheduled to take place; considered the highlight of the event - this incandescent affair boasts a number of performers dancing down the streets of Berlin, wearing authentic attire and wowing the audience with unique displays of solidarity and diversity between cultures.

In terms of travel and accommodation, Berlin offers a host of luxury hotels to choose from as well as a range of hostels. The nearest airports are Berlin Tegel and Berlin Schoenefeld, both within city limits, and are connected via the suburban rail network, the S-Bahn. The festival takes place in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, accessible on the U1 line of the U-Bahn, Berlin's underground system. A myriad of bus options, and taxis, are available to those traveling from within the city.
