26th MEF International Research Projects Contest Awards Have Been Presented

Held in collaboration with MEF Schools and MEF University in Istanbul, Turkey, the "26th International Research Projects Contest" had its award ceremony.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY, May 27, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The award ceremony of the "International Research Projects Contest," held annually by the MEF Educational Institutions since 1992, took place on May 26, 2017 at MEF Schools Ulus Campus, in Istanbul, Turkey, and hosted Prof. Mehmet Haberal as the guest of honor. Since its establishment in 1992, the contest has been encouraging high school students to carry out scientific research.

Amongst the 508 submitted projects, only a 79 from 13 were found to qualify for the final round. The contest featured many guest speakers, including the MEF Educational Institutions' General Manager Azmi Ozkardes, who remarked that the contest would be renamed as "Dr. Ibrahim Arikan International Research Projects Competition" as of next year in order to pass down the Arikan name, the founder of MEF Educational Institutions, to ensure that it becomes synonymous with science and education in time.

The projects, which were on display for three days for the public viewing and the jury's evaluation at one of Istanbul's rising art centers, UNIQ Istanbul, emphasized many areas such as technologies for the disabled, assessment mechanisms set up using simple techniques, micro and macro systems developed through the use of various software and hardware, and a wide use of micro processors. The members of the jury seemed to agree on the fact that this year's finalists, 79 projects from 142 students, were very promising in terms of the potential each project had for possible implementations in their respective industries.

This year's contest, open for submissions from all over the world except those from MEF Educational Institutions, focused on topics including but not limited to natural hybrid power banks, production of prosthesis, technologies developed for the use of the visually impaired, and treatment approaches for different kinds of cancer. The students seemed to have mastered their related domains as they were able to set up and manipulate pre-existing systems for their own purposes.
Students, notably from Azerbaijan; Bosnia-Herzegovina; Bulgaria; Georgia; Iraq; Macedonia; Malaysia; Montenegro; Poland; Qatar; Slovenia; Turkey; and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, had the honor of representing their countries on an international platform.
