Now in its 17th year, the event will feature many free performances at the Festival Pavilion in Albert Square and a series of concerts at leading venues such as Band on the Wall and Matt & Phred's Jazz Club.

Manchester band Pocket Central are due to kick things off with a show at Band on the Wall on Friday July 13th, with the organisers promising "exceptional funky musicianship and fun".

Over the following eight days, jazz fans can look forward to acclaimed saxophonist Stan Sulzmann playing with a 20-piece band at the Royal Northern College of Music on Tuesday July 17th and Mercury Prize nominee Zoe Rahman performing songs from her Kindred Spirits album the following evening.

In addition, Gilles Peterson will be at Band on the Wall alongside fellow BBC DJ Jez Nelson to record an edition of the Jazz on 3 radio show on Monday July 16th.
