Newtown Residents Join ExtraCare Residents in Staffordshire for Torch Relay

Residents from Newtown, Birmingham who hope to move into Pannel Croft Retirement Village when it opens in November have joined the residents at ExtraCare's School Court for their Olympic Celebrations.

CHESHIRE, ENGLAND, July 06, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Residents from Newtown, Birmingham who hope to move into Pannel Croft Retirement Village when it opens in November have joined the residents at ExtraCare's School Court for their Olympic Celebrations.

Three three ExtraCare resident hopefuls, Carol Bernard, Rosita Codrington and Millicent Gorbinsingh met for both the summer fair and torch relay to celebrate the Olympic Games this summer.

The Summer Fair raised more than GBP1,100 which will help to pay for events and activities enjoyed by the residents.

The ExtraCare torch relay is part of the innovative projects which the team http://www.extracare.org.uk have put in place to motivate residents to enjoy an independent and healthy lifestyle. The community spirit and diverse range of activities show off the alternative lifestyle that ExtraCare strive to achieve and the torch relay is a fine example of the different activities that residents partake in.

The torch relay is inspired by the 2012 games and has been awarded the Inspire Mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme which recognises innovating projects. As part of its five month, 715 mile journey around the ExtraCrae care homes across the country, the torch relay visited School Court where it travelled to Pannel Croft Village where it met over 55s who are hoping to move in this November.

Nick Abbey, Chief Executive of The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, said: "We hope that for many of the residents who are taking part, there will be health benefits and memories that last a lifetime."
