Six Hundred New Homes to be Built in Scotland

A huge regeneration site has been given the planning permission and approval to go ahead with the development of six hundred eco-friendly homes.

LONDON, ENGLAND, July 11, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The site for the development of new homes in Scotland is owned by BAE systems and is the former site of The Royal Ordnance Factory which is located in the south-west of Renfrewshire in Scotland. The brown field site was used for industrial purposes and during the last century the factory manufactured munitions, however the factory and land has remained disused for many years. The site covers approximately 2371 acres and is set in a rural location close to the village of Bishopton.

A consortium of leading house builders will take part in the first phase of the development and will build six hundred new homes to energy-efficient standards on the site. The whole site will be regenerated into a mixed use development including new build homes, commercial and retail units and a business park. The area will also include woodland grounds available for the local community, recreation and open spaces and a brand new primary school and community facilities. New leisure facilities are also planned as part of the project. A total of 2,500 new build homes will be built on the site during the fifteen year development over five phases.

A number of planning applications for associated infrastructure redevelopment including access roads, improvements to the railway station approach and the construction of a motorway junction have also been approved.

House builders including Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon Homes and CALA Homes have received the green light to build the first phase of a selection of two to five bedroom homes to suit a range of house buyers including first time buyers. Construction is due to start in September 2012 with the first phase of new homes available on the market in 2013.

During 2011 major drainage and access road work was implemented. During 2012 there are to be further works including excavations, demolition, earthworks and decommissioning that is being carried out to get the site ready for construction. A wildlife conservation plan has been integrated with BAE's Ecological Design and Management Plan that protects and improves the wildlife habitat on the site.
